What Company Produces Nice & Lovely Today?

Today, Nice & Lovely is produced by L’Oréal East Africa, the subsidiary in charge of developing L’Oreal Group’s business in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, and Ethiopia.

The Successes of Interconsumer Products Ltd., the Company That Created Nice & Lovely

Nice & Lovely became a household name in Kenya well before it had the power of L’Oréal behind it.

At the time of the L’Oréal/Interconsumer Products Ltd. buyout, Nice & Lovely was already a leader in the Kenyan hair care market controlling about 18% of the industry.

Nice & Lovely Hair Products

Interconsumer Products Limited had also already expanded into other countries in the region, namely Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda.

Who Founded Interconsumer Products Ltd., the Company That Created Nice & Lovely?

Interconsumer Products Limited was the brainchild of Paul Kinuthia, who started the company in Kariobangi, a Nairobi low-income residential estate.

The sale of the health & beauty arm of the company was a transaction worth billions of Kenyan shillings and one that made Mr. Kinuthia a Kenyan billionaire. (What a great story! ??)

  1. Hey Biche,

I must say you sometimes write about the most unthought-of things but anyway who said that is a bad thing ? it’s good to be different and creative too.

Tell me all about it. I love the Nice & Lovely
Petroleum Jelly too. I stumbled across it when
i was went out shopping for my usual body oil
and could not find it. I had stopped by 2 stores
and could not find the one i wanted.
I was not willing to go to yet another to get disappointed, so i started looking for another options. I walked the aisle till i saw this Can with a pink sticker & lid.
(I think the pink thing is a gals thing.) Lol !
even better than the pink colour was it’s smell. Waaaa !
so i decided to try it. I was however a bit worried that it
would be too heavy on my skin but that was not the case.
It’s nice and light and smells nice. I have introduced it to my sister who likes it too. I think a couple of people use it too cause i can’t seem to get the one without the baby picture sometimes

    Am sold completely.

It is such a lovely product to moisturize your skin. I would recommend it to anyone to anytime.. Cheers !

    1. Hehehe Bobo,

Yes, Nice & Lovely PJ is an un-thought of thing, but from your comment, I know you can fully understand why I thought it was worth writing about! 🙂

You mentioned a body oil you were using before, which one was that (random girl talk)? Yes, I agree that the pink label is quite effective for us gals – it definitely works for me- though there is a blue one for those not so keen on pink.

Thanks for your feedback. As you can see, you are the lone voice (for now) that could relate to the post. Hehehehe…

I hope you are having a good weekend.

      Biche

  2. I highly recommend Nivea Jelly with Vitamin E for lipgloss/chapstick. I carry one of the mini-tubs in my purse 24/7. I’ve only used it as a lotion at night on my hands and feet. How much do you apply as a regular lotion?

    1. Hi Em,

By Nivea Jelly, do you mean the Petroleum Jelly sold in a Vaseline Petroleum Jelly looking tub with a blue top? If so I’ve used that too, and it’s pretty good. What are your reasons for recommending it particularly?

I hear it’s really good to put petroleum jelly on your hands and feet, while you sleep. I’ve never tried it (though I should for my feet). Do you notice a marked difference in the texture of your hands and feet after doing this?

When I use petroleum jelly as regular lotion, I simply rub some on my hands and then rub it on my body (I am not sure how to quantify that). I don’t put a very thick layer on except if I am in very dry weather, like during winter abroad. In sunnier places like, Mombasa and Dar es Salaam, I keep the layer as light as possible! Though I’ve noticed recently that petroleum jelly, in hot humid weather, makes me sweat less than liquid lotion. That was surprising to me. Have I answered your question?

      B.

  3. I love petroleum jelly, I use it every night, but have been on valon. I guess I developed a bad attitude because Nice and Lovely hair products aren’t all that.

I’ll try some, now that you’ve used it for 3 years. BTW, could you do a review on lotions and lingerie shops in Nairobi?

    1. Hi Again Pinkmemoirs,

Valon? Yes, I’ve used that before though I find it’s a little light. I totally understand your bias towards Nice & Lovely, though I was surprised to find that their hair cholesterol treatment (which I use as conditioner at times) is not half bad. Which of their hair products have you had bad experiences with?

About lotions and lingerie shops in Nairobi, request noted. I am not currently in Nairobi though, so you’ll have to wait a bit for that. I am not sure what kind of lotions you are interested in, but when it comes to lingerie shops, check out Secrets at Sarit Centre (expensive) or any of the Woolworths (better value for money). There’s a pretty looking lingerie store at Yaya Centre though I don’t know much more than that the items in their display always catch my attention. In my experience, going to places like 4u2, which sell less expensive lingerie, also means you compromise on the quality of the lingerie you are getting. Might anyone else have anything to add on the subject?

Let me know what you think of the Nice & Lovely petroleum jelly once you’ve tried it.

      Biche

  4. Hi Biche,

Yes that’s exactly the jelly I was referring to. I like it because it doesn’t feel as thick and sticky as normal Vaseline can if I wear it overnight. And yes I do notice a huge difference in the softness of my hands and feet, especially after a few nights of treatment. Speaking of skin issues, is there a dermatologist on the third floor YaYa? I’ve heard there is but I don’t remember if I heard that before or after the major YaYa transformation.

    Thanks!
    Em

    1. Hi Em,

Yes, the Nivea Jelly is lighter than Vaseline. Thanks for sharing that!

About the dermatologist at Yaya, there is indeed a dermatologist on Yaya’s 3rd floor called Dr. Pancholi. I’ve never used him or her myself, but I figured that out from the Yaya Centre Website. The last time I needed to go to a dermatologist, I went to Dr. Bansil in the Upper Hill Medical Centre, and I recommend him highly (if you are shopping around for a dermatologist). He was affordable and extremely professional. Above of all, he got rid of a skin condition that I had been battling for over 10 years (I had simply learned to live with it!). If you would like to find out more, the phone numbers to his office are 2721576/2720147.

Thanks for coming back to continue the conversation about petroleum jellies. Good luck with finding a good dermatologist!

      Biche

  5. Thanks for the link and the phone number Biche! I’m quite particular about my skin. Your obsession with petroleum jelly is right up my alley!
