Best Indian Restaurants in Dar es Salaam/Best Indian Restaurant Dar es Salaam/Curry Restaurant Near Me: Best Indian Restaurants Near Me (Indian Cuisine Near Me)

Because of the large population of Tanzanians of Indian descent, Dar es Salaam abounds with great Indian food for all budgets.

Some of my favorite Indian restaurants in Dar es Salaam are:

  • Swaad at the Upanga Club on Ali Hassan Mwinyi Road (Swaad also has a branch at Mlimani City though I have never eaten there)
  • Anywhere on Jamhuri Street downtown. A lot of the Indo-Tanzanian community in Dar es Salaam live in the city centre. When evening falls, part of downtown Dar es Salaam becomes a charming residential area with people of all ages walking the street and amazing Indian food sold for a steal. It’s an experience in and of itself.
  • Anghiti on Bagamoyo Road

  1. My husband and I have eaten at every Indian restaurant in Dar that we can find. We enjoyed Anghiti’s, but our favorite so far is Khana Khazana which is also on New Bagamoyo, same side of the road, but a little further west. They’ve just opened a second location at the new area in Sea Cliff (food court style), but the one on Bagamoyo has a more enjoyable ambiance. Another recommendation is Swaad, located in Upanga. The food is cheap and we havne’t been disappointed yet. We also like Nawabi Khana on Haile Selasie, but it’s a bit expensive and a little over the top. Good food though.

  2. Hi Destination Dar,

    Welcome to ChickAboutTown!

Thanks for your feedback on Indian restaurants in Dar es Salaam! I have often driven past Khana Khazana and wondered what it was like. There’s a great restaurant by the same name in Kampala, but since I hadn’t heard anyone in Dar es Salaam mention it, I thought it mightn’t be anything special. I will definitely try it out soon!

    Where in Upanga is Swaad?

Nawabi Khana has been on my list of restaurants to try since it’s recent opening, but I’ve just never gotten round to it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts about it. I’ll let you know what I think when I’ve finally been.

    Cheers,
    Biche

    1. From Ali Hassan, turn down United Nations Rd. Make your first left off of UN Rd. Swaad is about a kilometer or less down that road on your left (right across from a small veg or hardware store).

We’ve also heard about a great one downtown called Badminton, but haven’t made it there yet.

One more comment about Nawabi Khana…there is a waitor there who makes excellent recommendations and is happy to tell you what is and is not fresh. If you get him, you’ll probably be happy with what he suggests.

  3. How about you? Have you ever been to Anghiti Dar es Salaam?

Well, not yet.I have been to the chap next door who has the best fried chicken in Masasi, at least my tongue thinks so.
I’ve heard good things about Khana Khazana back in Uganda and also here in Dar so it is on my list of to-go places.
Anghiti is added and hopefully enjoy it

    1. Hi Ken,

The chap with the best fried chicken in Masaki – who is that? I am curious. I imagine you are talking about Anghiti at Seacliff Village.

Ooohhh…I love the food at Khana Khazana in Kampala (though I find the decor a bit shifty).

      Thanks for your feedback.

      Biche
