What interesting things to do in Nairobi take place on a Thursday night?
Frankly, there’s a lot to do as the city seems to wake up for the weekend that early.
If you are in the mood for something fun and different, then consider going to Pavement in Westlands where a salsa night takes place every Thursday.
It’s one of the funnest things to do in Nairobi that night!
Located near Westlands roundabout, Pavement is a restaurant and nightclub popular with expatriates and cosmopolitan Kenyans.
That’s one of the greatest things about the salsa night at Pavement.
On top of a jamming live band and great atmosphere, it’s fun to watch people from all over the world get together, have fun, and dance to Latin music in whichever way they understand it best.
Things to Do in Nairobi on a Thursday Night
The Thursday night festivities at Pavement do not take place in the nightclub area but rather in the restaurant and bar area outside.
This makes for the perfect opportunity to start the evening with a meal, before dancing the night away to Latin rhythms.
The band begins to play around 10 p.m., and dancing takes off a little after that.
You can imagine what that means in terms of how late patrons stay.
From experience, it’s almost impossible to leave before midnight, and 1:00 a.m. would be for the very disciplined.
I am not sure what time the band stops playing, but I’ve left Pavement at 3:30 a.m. before, and believe it or not, the band was still playing!
Unlike other Nairobi salsa nights that I know of, this one is not dominated by salseros.
In fact, I often see very few salsa dancers there.
Rather, it’s a nice opportunity to have fun, listen to good music, and dance the best way you know how.
You won’t get judged for your dancing: everyone simply lets loose and has a ball.
This can be a bit frustrating for salsa dancers, though, because they rarely find enough space on the dance floor to execute complicated dance moves.
The dance floor is small and it gets packed quickly.
Moreover, the surface of the dance floor is rough so this too is not on the side of the salsero.
If your aim is to have a true salsa fix, I recommend the salsa night at the InterContinental Hotel the following day.
Still, salsa night at Pavement is a lot of fun, salsa aficionado or not.
The music is good, the crowd is interesting, and the ambiance is intoxicating.
If you are looking for fun things to do in Nairobi on a Thursday night, I highly recommend it.
Don’t worry too much about the next day being a work day.
Remember, there’ll only be one day left before the weekend!
If you do check it out, I hope you have fun.
If you’ve been already, I’d love to know what you think about Thursday nights at The Pavement.
As always, I am eager to hear what you have to say.
