This weekend, on Saturday Dec. 8 & Sunday Dec. 9, 2007, the Makutano Arts & Crafts fair will be taking place in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. Will you be in Dar-es-Salaam this weekend? If so, maybe you would like to stop by and see what Tanzanian artists have to offer!

Makutano, a centre for Tanzanian art, organizes a bi-annual arts and crafts fair to bring together artists from all over Tanzania to sell and exhibit their crafts. Makutano is an organization that centers on the policies of fair trade and eco-friendliness. This December, the Makutano fair will take place at the Police Officers’ Mess on Toure Drive (please see the flyer below).

I will definitely be in attendance. I can’t wait to see what Tanzania has to offer in terms of arts and crafts! If you are interested in this kind of thing, then I recommend that you make it a point to go check it out for yourself! My friends in Dar-es-Salaam tell me that the fair is quite a spectacular event.

For more information, you can visit Makutano’s website, http://www.makutanotz.com. You can also reach Makutano by email on info@makutanotz.com. To contact the organization by phone, you can use the following telephone numbers: +255 784 782 770 /+255 713 320 778.

If you do make it to the fair this weekend, please come back and let me know what you thought of it. I will do the same once I’ve been.

I hope you enjoy it!

Hi Linda,

Thanks for your comment on this post and welcome to the ChickAboutTown community!

What did you like most at the Fair? If you are familiar with arts & crafts from other parts of the world, how do you think Tanzanian Arts & Crafts compare?

I’d love to hear what you have to say!

Hi Akim,

Welcome to ChickAboutTown!

For more information on how to participate in this year’s Makutano Fair, please use the contact information listed at the top of this post. I am not in any way affiliated with the fair so am unable to give you any further information.

I hope you manage to exhibit at this year’s fair. I’ll look out for anything Zimbabwean when I visit the fair.

Wishing you all the best,
Biche
