Financial & Legal Troubles
2019 KRA Raid & Factory Closure
- In early 2019, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) raided the ASL facility, alleging the use of counterfeit excise stamps, fake flow-meter bypass engineering, and undisclosed alcohol production, with estimated tax evasion claims ranging up to Sh41 billion.
- The raid resulted in seizure of goods, machinery, and closure of the factory under DCI and KRA custody.
2022 Factory Handover
- In 2020–2022, after court rulings challenged aspects of the seizure, the factory was returned to its owners in a legally supervised procedure.
- However, as of mid-2025, the plant has not resumed operations due to damage, vandalism, and regulatory/legal uncertainty .
June 2025: Administration Notice
- On June 17, 2025, ASL was placed under administration under the Insolvency Act 2015. Administrator Peter Kahi, from PKF Consulting (K) Ltd, officially took control of all company assets and decision-making authority.
- Directors, shareholders, employees—nobody can transact on behalf of the company without Kahi’s explicit written consent.
- A deadline of July 18, 2025 was set for creditors to submit claims; the administration aims to either restructure the business or liquidate or sell assets to maximize creditor recovery.
Ownership & Misconceptions
- Despite widespread media portrayal, Humphrey Kariuki is not the owner of Africa Spirits Limited, nor has he ever held executive control. A deep-dive into corporate filings (CR12 forms) and court records confirms he is not listed among shareholders or directors of ASL.
- The persistent narrative linking Kariuki to ASL appears to stem from the convenience of associating a high-profile billionaire with scandal. In reality, his ties are unsubstantiated and lack formal corporate basis.
Key Implications & Outlook
- Operations remain halted. KRA and courts passed stewardship to ASL’s administrator; revival looks unlikely due to cost, damage, and unsettled liabilities .
- Administrator’s mandate involves evaluating whether ASL can be restructured to continue as a going concern, or whether assets should be sold to honor creditor claims.

Double Shot at Love with DJ Pauly D and Vinny, also referred to simply as Double Shot at Love, is an American reality television show featuring DJ Pauly D and Vinny Guadagnino from Jersey Shore.
The first season, a dating game show spin-off of the original Shot at Love series starring Tila Tequila and the Ikki Twins, premiered on MTV on April 11, 2019. That season featured 20 females competing for the attention and affection of both Pauly and Vinny.
The second season, dubbed Vegas Ex-scape, premiered on June 11, 2020 and featured six contestants from the first season, plus three additional male cast members, who move into Pauly and Vinny’s suite at The LINQ Hotel in Las Vegas, while working at Drai’s Beachclub & Nightclub.
The series was renewed for a third season on April 13, 2021.
It reverted to the first season’s dating show format, with Pauly and Nikki guiding Vinny on the search for his perfect match.
