Midnight Club can refer to two very different things: the Rockstar Games street-racing video-game series or Netflix’s The Midnight Club, the 2022 horror series created by Mike Flanagan and Leah Fong.
If you mean the Netflix show, it’s a particularly interesting one.

The Midnight Club is a 10-episode horror/mystery series set primarily at Brightcliffe, a hospice for teenagers and young adults with terminal illnesses. The central character is Ilonka, played by Iman Benson, a highly intelligent teenager who arrives at Brightcliffe after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer.
The residents form a secret group called the Midnight Club. They meet at midnight to tell one another frightening stories. They also make a pact: whoever dies first is supposed to try to send a sign to the others from beyond the grave.
And that setup is important because the show isn’t simply “teenagers in a haunted hospice.”
What makes it different
Each episode has two things going on.
There’s the main Brightcliffe story, involving Ilonka, the other residents, the mysterious history of the building and questions about whether something supernatural is happening.
Then there are the stories the teenagers tell at their midnight meetings. These become little horror stories within the larger series, with the actors sometimes playing completely different characters.
So you get several kinds of horror at once:
- supernatural horror
- psychological horror
- mystery
- stories about death and grief
- questions about what happens after death
- the fear of losing someone you love
- the desire to believe that death isn’t necessarily the end
The fact that the characters are terminally ill gives the horror a different emotional weight.
They’re not simply afraid of dying. They’re already living with the knowledge that they may die young.
Ilonka Is the Person Who Pulls You Into the Mystery
Ilonka has a very strong reason for being suspicious of Brightcliffe.
She discovers that the hospice has a strange history and becomes increasingly interested in the possibility that someone who stayed there decades earlier may have found a way to overcome a terminal illness.
That leads her down a rabbit hole involving the Paragon, a mysterious group associated with Brightcliffe’s past.
The more Ilonka investigates, the more the distinction between coincidence, conspiracy and the supernatural becomes difficult to maintain.
The show therefore has a kind of “what the hell is really going on here?” quality running underneath the character stories.
And the Teenagers Are Actually the Heart of It
The supernatural material gets a lot of attention, but the Midnight Club itself is really about the relationships between these young people.
They know that their time together may be limited.
So the stories become a way for them to talk indirectly about things that are difficult to say plainly:
What are you afraid of?
What do you regret?
What would you want people to remember about you?
Do you believe there is something after death?
Would you want to know when you’re going to die?
That’s where the series can become surprisingly emotional.
It was also adapted from Christopher Pike’s 1994 YA novel The Midnight Club, although the television series incorporates material from other Pike stories as well.
One Unusual Thing About the Show
Mike Flanagan loves creating interconnected horror stories, and The Midnight Club is particularly playful with that structure.
The characters tell stories that resemble different horror genres.
One might feel like a ghost story, another like science fiction, another like psychological horror, another like a supernatural thriller.
So if you like horror but don’t necessarily want ten episodes of one continuous haunted-house story, there’s quite a lot of variety.
But if You Meant the Video Game…
Midnight Club is an entirely different beast.
It’s Rockstar Games’ open-world arcade street-racing series, beginning with Midnight Club: Street Racing in 2000.
The games put you in urban environments where you race through city streets rather than following traditional closed racing circuits.
The series included:
- Midnight Club: Street Racing — 2000
- Midnight Club II — 2003
- Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition — 2005
- Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix — 2006
- Midnight Club: Los Angeles — 2008

Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition is particularly associated with customization, licensed cars and motorcycles, and the hip-hop/DUB car culture of the mid-2000s.
Midnight Club II was the first in the series to introduce motorcycles.
And Midnight Club: Los Angeles gave players a large open-world version of Los Angeles, with cars, motorcycles, customization, police pursuits and online racing.
The franchise has been dormant for years.
The last major release was Midnight Club: Los Angeles Complete Edition in 2009, and plans for another installment were stalled around 2010.

Club Atletico Huracan Las Heras” Historia Fundacion”
El Club Atlético Huracán Las Heras, conocido habitualmente como Huracán Las Heras o El Globo, es un club de fútbol argentino de Las Heras, en la provincia de Mendoza.
Su historia es particular porque el club actual no nació simplemente de la fundación de una sola institución, sino de una serie de clubes y fusiones que finalmente dieron origen a Huracán Las Heras el 24 de diciembre de 1939.
Los Orígenes
La historia comienza bastante antes de 1939. Uno de los antecedentes fue el Sportivo Benjamín Matienzo, fundado el 12 de julio de 1920. Otro fue el Club Sportivo Juan Gregorio Las Heras, creado en 1925.
En 1929, Sportivo Benjamín Matienzo se fusionó con Sportivo Canillitas, formando Matienzo Sport Club.
Mientras tanto, en 1930 se fundó Sportivo Domingo Bombal, y en 1932 apareció Deportivo Olascoaga.
También hubo una importante unión de clubes del departamento de Las Heras. Club Honor y Patria, Sportivo Juan Gregorio Las Heras y Deportivo Sarmiento se fusionaron para formar Unión Sport Club Las Heras. Este club utilizaba una camiseta a rayas verticales negras, rojas y blancas.
Cómo Apareció Huracán
En 1934, Matienzo Sport Club y Deportivo Olascoaga se fusionaron. De esa unión nació el Club Deportivo Huracán.
El nuevo club adoptó los colores que posteriormente identificarían a Huracán Las Heras: blanco y rojo, junto con la imagen del globo que caracteriza al club.
En 1937, Club Deportivo Huracán se fusionó con Sportivo Domingo Bombal.
La nueva institución pasó a llamarse Deportivo Huracán Bombal y conservó la identidad de Huracán.
La Fundación de Huracán Las Heras
El paso definitivo llegó el 24 de diciembre de 1939.
Después de varias reuniones, Deportivo Huracán Bombal y Unión Sport Club Las Heras acordaron fusionarse.
La unión fue formalizada en una asamblea y de ella nació el Club Atlético Huracán Las Heras.
Por eso, cuando se habla de la fundación de Huracán Las Heras, la fecha que corresponde al club actual es:
24 de diciembre de 1939.
Es una fecha distinta de las fechas de fundación de los clubes que lo precedieron.
Los Primeros Años
Huracán Las Heras comenzó a competir en la Liga Mendocina de Fútbol en 1940, ingresando en la segunda categoría.
Su primera campaña fue bastante buena: terminó segundo, aunque perdió el partido decisivo por 5-0 ante Nacional Vélez Sársfield Pacífico, actualmente Atlético Argentino.
En 1945, el club consiguió el ascenso a la máxima categoría de la Liga Mendocina después de ganar el campeonato de manera invicta.
El estadio General San Martín
El estadio tradicional de Huracán Las Heras es el Estadio General San Martín, situado en Las Heras.
El estadio fue inaugurado el 8 de junio de 1952 y se convirtió en uno de los lugares centrales de la identidad del club.
El gran ascenso de 2016
Uno de los momentos importantes de la historia moderna del club llegó en 2016.
Huracán Las Heras disputó el Torneo Federal B Complementario y avanzó hasta la instancia decisiva por el ascenso.
En la serie final enfrentó a Central Norte de Salta.
Los dos partidos terminaron 2-2, por lo que el ascenso tuvo que definirse mediante una tanda de penales.
Huracán Las Heras ganó 3-2 en los penales el 18 de diciembre de 2016 y consiguió por primera vez el ascenso al Torneo Federal A, la tercera categoría del fútbol argentino para los clubes del interior.

Los colores celeste y blanco se mantienen como parte de la identidad del club.

That’s what I’d like to tell you about today.

I first heard of this bingo night while working as a community coordinator at one of Dar es Salaam’s diplomatic missions.
As community coordinator, I organized activities that would enable newly arrived diplomats to discover the city. These activities would also give them a chance to rub shoulders with local communities.
When several people told me that “Indian” bingo at Upanga Club was a lot of fun, a light bulb went off: this could be just the kind of activity my colleagues would like.

I can’t say for sure that it is every Friday because I haven’t been in a while. That is how it used to be though.
I’ve never had to book, even with large parties. There is a lot of space…just get there early.
Have you been trying to reach them today? Perhaps they are unavailable because of the public holiday. Try again tomorrow, otherwise perhaps it might be wise to go there in person and check before Friday.
About the food, it is amazing! It’s some of the best Indian food I have had in Tanzania and very inexpensive.
