A solid color is a single, uniform color used without a contrasting pattern, print, stripes, spots, or intentional multicolored design.
In other words, the color stays essentially the same across the surface rather than changing from one color to another.
What Counts as a Solid Color?
Almost any color can be a solid color.

It contrasts with techniques such as highlights, balayage, ombré, or other approaches that deliberately introduce different colors or tones.
And this distinction matters because solid color doesn’t necessarily mean “one exact shade with absolutely no tonal variation.”
Natural-looking hair can have subtle variation from lighting, texture, or the underlying hair, while still being described as an all-over color.
In Design and Printing
The meaning becomes somewhat more technical in graphic design and printing.
A solid color is essentially an uninterrupted field of one color.
In printing, spot or solid colors can refer to inks mixed to a particular shade and printed as a dedicated color rather than being produced from the CMYK process.
So if you see the phrase “solid color” on a product description, the safest interpretation is:
One predominant, uniform color, without a contrasting printed or dyed pattern.
