Is Red7 Card Game Suitable for Kids Too?

Although Red7 card game is said to be suitable for kids 9 years and above, I thought it might be too complicated for kids not yet in their teens.
As my 10-year-old nephew aptly demonstrated to us one Sunday, this is not the case.
He had no problem beating us his aunties, his parents, and even his grandfather. (You go, Michael!)
So…in case you are looking for a fun and interesting way to spend some of your leisure time, I thought I’d tell you about this fantastic card game today.
My cousin got her copy of Red7 card game from a friend who lives abroad, but you can also find it on Amazon.
If you check it out, or have played it before, please let me know what you think of the game in the comment section below.
As always, I look forward to hearing what you have to say.
Until the next time,
Biche

Red7 is a compact, quick‑play card game designed by Carl Chudyk and Chris Cieslik, published by Asmadi Games. It’s praised for its simple rules combined with deep strategy, making it a favorite “filler game” for 2–4 players .
Game Components & Objective
- Deck: 49 cards, numbered 1–7, in 7 colors (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet). Each color corresponds to a different rule set.
- Goal: Stay “winning” at the end of your turn. If you’re not winning (based on the current rule), you’re eliminated. Last player remaining wins the round.
Core Mechanics
1. Setup
- Deal 7 cards to each player’s hand.
- Deal one card face-up to each player’s Palette (personal play area).
- Place the “Red – You are playing Red” card on the Canvas to set the initial rule: highest card wins.
2. On Your Turn, you must do one:
- Play a card from your hand into your Palette.
- Discard a card from your hand to the Canvas, changing the rule to that card’s color (but you must be winning under the new rule).
- Play a card to your Palette and then discard one to the Canvas (and still be winning).
- Do nothing—and lose (used when you have no winning play).
3. Winning the Rule
- Evaluate against all players based on the top rule card on Canvas.
- Ties broken by comparing highest relevant card value, then color rank: Red > Orange > … > Violet.
Color Rules Breakdown
Each color sets a different win-condition you must meet or beat:
- Red: Highest card (in Palette)
- Orange: Most of one number (e.g., pair/triple)
