Honestly speaking, most of the places that I have written about in my previous posts have not been new to me. Rather, they’ve been places that I’ve been to many times before but thought you might like to know about.

In this post, I’d like to tell you about a place that was as new to me as I hope it will be for you!

At the height of the rugby Tri Nations series (sometime in June) after a night of intense partying, some friends invited me to join them for some recovery nyama choma.

The friends in question were all male and rugby die-hards.

After the meat, their plan was to watch the game of the day.

I was clearly not part of this plan because I am not a sports fan and these guys knew it.

Unfortunately for me (or maybe fortunately, as you will read later in the post), I had left my car at home with the promise of being dropped back before the guys went off to watch the game.

This is not how things turned out. Due to a shortage of time between plans, I ended up going to Taidy’s to watch the game too.

Discovering Taidy’s Sports Bar

Not one to cause a fracas, I decided to go with the flow.

I had heard of Taidy’s before from a number of people. All they told me, though, was that it was a new bar located behind “garage”. (For those who are familiar with Nairobi West, you know what I am referring to.)

Because of this constant association with “garage”, I assumed that Taidy’s must be just another grungy nyama choma joint.

About that, I was definitely wrong!

Getting to Taidy’s

We made our way to Nairobi West, which is where Taidys is located.

From Mbagathi Way roundabout, we entered Nairobi West. We then quickly took a left into an alley immediately before the famous “garage”. (For those who are dying to know what “garage” is, it is a nyama choma joint in Nairobi West that has a car wash and what looks like a mechanic’s garage in the front yard. Once you know what you are looking for, it’s very hard to miss.)

As we continued down the alley to get to Taidy’s, what I saw was as different from “garage” as night is from day.

Most importantly, Taidy’s is housed in a concrete structure, whereas “garage” is housed in makeshift shack-like structures.

The Ambiance at Taidys Nairobi

On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, we found Taidy’s lively and full of activity.

The hang was obviously in full swing for the Nairobians at the locale.

There was music playing. Most of the clientele looked like they had come to savor a late lunch along with accompanying drinks.
