19 Sky, Water, & Sunset Photos and More Taken in Dar es Salaam, Kampala, Kigali and Elsewhere

For whatever reason, I seem to be looking upwards a lot lately. Every picture I post on Instagram nowadays seems to be of the sky or at the very least is sky-heavy. Sometimes it’s a very blue sky. Other times it’s a beautiful sunset. I don’t know what this says about me or the headspace I’m in right now, but what I do know is that, judging from the reaction I get, many of my Instagram followers, and hopefully you my readers, can relate. Whatever the case, today, I’d like to share the best of these photos and videos with you. Because … Continue reading 19 Sky, Water, & Sunset Photos and More Taken in Dar es Salaam, Kampala, Kigali and Elsewhere

48 Instagram Photos from Rwanda, Uganda, and More

The second half of this year has seen me doing my share of travelling. First it was to Northern Tanzania, then Uganda, Rwanda, and now back to Uganda again. My Instagram gallery has been mirroring a similar route, though also including destinations such as Nairobi and Mikumi National Park. I’ve had lots of fun sharing these pics with my followers on Instagram, and since I know that many of you, who read this blog, are not active Instagram users, I thought I’d share the best of those pictures with you here. I hope you like them. Please be sure to let … Continue reading 48 Instagram Photos from Rwanda, Uganda, and More

Instagram: 36 Most Liked Pictures—Tanzania, Uganda & South Africa

At the beginning of March, I turned a scary-for-me age. I could feel age creeping up on me. I had become one of those people who no longer understood why “young people” did the things they did. One thing I couldn’t understand, for instance, was why they spent so much time on Instagram. I mean: what’s so fun about looking at pictures posted by people you don’t even know? Then, two “young people”, my youngest brother (@RichieWallStreet) and my nephew (@Muhaya_Fulani) convinced me to give Instagram a try. Ha ha ha…the joke was on me: it’s been two months and … Continue reading Instagram: 36 Most Liked Pictures—Tanzania, Uganda & South Africa

What to Do in Gaborone

Two months ago, I had the pleasure of visiting Botswana for the first time. Not the Okavango Delta or Chobe National Park (the big safari destinations in Botswana) but rather the capital of Botswana, Gaborone. I was very busy right before the trip, so I didn’t get to do much more than a perfunctory online search of what there was to do in Gaborone (which yielded very sketchy information), but I tried not to worry about it, sure that I’d figure it out once my trip began. On the appointed day, I hopped onto a Fastjet flight to Johannesburg (I would connect to Gaborone … Continue reading What to Do in Gaborone

South Africa Travel: Soweto, Johannesburg

As I mentioned in my last travel post on Johannesburg, South Africa, I bought a 2-day bus & Soweto combo ticket from City Sightseeing Joburg. That ticket allowed me to travel around Johannesburg on the City Sightseeing Joburg bus for two days and, on one of those days, jump into a smaller van to tour Soweto. What I Thought About Soweto and South Africa Before Getting There As a black African child raised in the ’80s, for the longest time, my strongest association with South Africa was apartheid. I remember my father, when I was barely six years old, refusing to buy me a can of Schweppes Indian Tonic because the top … Continue reading South Africa Travel: Soweto, Johannesburg

Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour by City Sightseeing Johannesburg

In my last post, I wrote about flying from Dar es Salaam to Johannesburg with Fastjet, Africa’s new low-cost airline. In that post, I promised to one day tell you more about what I saw and did while I was in Johannesburg. Today, I’ll tell you about the great way I found to go sightseeing and to explore the city of Johannesburg in a short time at a good price. Keep reading to find out more. (Planning on visiting South Africa soon? If so, you might be interested in reading The The Top 5 Wine Farms in Cape Town, South Africa.)
