Uber, the Holiday Season, and Dynamic Pricing

I had never used Uber until I wrote this post about Uber launching in Dar es Salaam. Since then, it has been a Godsend! With its attractive rates, and the fact that you can call for transportation at any time without necessarily knowing a specific taxi driver, or its great mapping tool which allows you to call for a ride even when you are not too sure how to describe where you are, I know I will be using Uber again and again. With the holiday season — and its many parties — upon us, call or schedule an Uber to drive you … Continue reading

Online Casinos in East Africa Are the Next Big Thing

If you are a regular reader you will know that bingo at the Upanga Club in Dar es Salaam has become a favourite Friday night out. But the Upanga Club is not the only place where you can experience the thrill of a cash win. Friday night is also not the only time when you can enjoy a spot of gambling excitement. South Africa’s big gambling resorts are, inevitably, what everyone thinks of whenever gambling and Africa are mentioned in the same sentence. But believe it or not, there is a lot more to Africa than just the bit at the bottom! … Continue reading

KWS Marine Park Tour Day 5: Back to Nairobi

It was the last day of the KWS marine park social media tour, and we were keenly aware of it. Instead of the gusto and excitement with which we’d woken up the past few days, on this last day, we were dragging our feet and barely talking to each other. We got up, had breakfast, and put our stuff together in preparation for the long journey ahead. The Itinerary Personally, I was a bit excited because I knew we were scheduled to drive through Tsavo East National Park on our way to Nairobi. Granted, we’d just be driving through, but I … Continue reading

Mombasa Marine Park & Reserve: What You Can Expect to See There

The Mombasa Marine National Park and Reserve is a marine park and national reserve located in Mombasa, Kenya. It is a short, easy boat ride from Mombasa’s main tourist areas and is popular for snorkeling and diving. Mombasa Marine Park is the most heavily visited of Kenya’s marine parks. Read more about my experience of getting to and visiting Mombasa Marine Park courtesy of the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS). This post includes a video I took while feeding fish in the Park. We left the KWS Kisite Marine Park office, in Shimoni, full of excitement about what the day held in store for … Continue reading

KWS Marine Park Tour Day 1: Getting to Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park

If you follow me on Twitter, then you probably already know that I spent the last week of November visiting Kenyan marine parks courtesy of Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS). KWS is a bona fide 21st century East African parastatal that fully embraces the power of social media. Apparently, KWS’s 4 marine parks—Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park, Malindi Marine Park, Mombasa Marine Park, and Watamu Marine Park—are among the least visited of KWS’s 35 national parks and reserves. So, KWS sought to resolve this by inviting bloggers to visit and experience these parks and spread the word about them through social media. … Continue reading
